Royal Seals

The Great Seal of the Realm

The Great Seal of the Realm depicts His Royal Highness Prince Maximilian attired in Byzantine vestments, crowned with a golden laurel wreath. In his right hand, he bears the Eagle Sceptre; in his left, the globus cruciger. Encircling the image is the inscription in the Kaharaž language: “MAKSIMILIJAN • U BOŽEJ MILASTI • CRNEŽ KAHARAŽIJE”, denoting the Sovereign’s royal title.

Unlike the British counterpart, the Great Seal of Kaharagia is single-sided and measures 50 millimetres in diameter. There exists a handled wax sealer, an ink impression seal, and a matrix for blind embossing. For use on documents where the standard seal is impractical due to size, a smaller version has been authorised by the Sovereign.

Application and Use

The Great Seal may be affixed to any document bearing the signature of the Sovereign, or it may serve in lieu of the Sovereign’s signature. For example, certificates of citizenship bear the seal in place of a handwritten signature, as the granting decree is signed by the Sovereign. The seal may also be used on envelopes for official correspondence addressed to foreign heads of state or dignitaries.

Custody and Regulation

Only one official version of the Great Seal exists. It is securely housed in a walnut case and kept under the custody of the Keeper of the Great Seal. The present Keeper is Count Lupro, who affixes the seal to documents solely by order of the Sovereign.

The current design was created by Count Lupro and produced by Nikolay Kharlamov. The use and regulation of the Great Seal of the Realm are governed by Royal Decree No. 23/2022, dated 20 September 2022.

Sovereign’s Personal Seal

The Sovereign’s Personal Seal is used exclusively on personal correspondence, such as private letters and greetings. It exists in two forms: a brass wax seal used to seal envelopes, and a self-adhesive embossed version for similar use. Custody of the Sovereign’s Personal Seal is entrusted to His Royal Highness’s Private Secretary.

The design of the seal features the crowned royal cypher of Prince Maximilian, encircled by the royal motto: “PRO DEO ET PATRIA”, Latin for “For God and Fatherland.”

Other Royal Seals of Kaharagia

Certain royal institutions maintain seals of their own for ceremonial and administrative use.

The Royal Order of the Kaharagian Eagle possesses its own official seal. While appointments to the Order are made by Royal Decree under the Great Seal of the Realm, the letters patent (brevet) of appointment are signed by the Sovereign or the Chancellor of the Order, and are authenticated with the seal of the Order.

The seal of the Royal Order of the Kaharagian Eagle is a traditional ink seal, bearing the insignia of the Order surrounded by the inscription: “THE ROYAL ORDER OF THE KAHARAGIAN EAGLE.” It is also affixed to the official Statutes of the Order. Custody of the seal is maintained by the Chancellor of the Order.
