Accession and Founding of the Principality
Prince Maximilian, born on 23 October 1990 in Detroit, Michigan (United States), became the reigning Sovereign of the Principality of Kaharagia upon its foundation on 16 July 2010. His establishment of the state was a bold expression of the right to self-determination, embodying the enduring aspiration for sovereign governance among small, self-constituted nations.
Education and Background
Educated in public schools, Prince Maximilian has long cultivated a passion for History and Religious Studies. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in History and a second Master’s degree in Education. His academic interests continue to inform his leadership and vision for Kaharagia’s civic and cultural life.
Succession and Personal Life
His Royal Highness is presently unmarried and without issue. In accordance with the laws of succession, the heir presumptive is his aunt, Her Royal Highness Princess Gloria. This designation remains provisional and shall be superseded by any legitimate offspring (adopted or natural) of the Sovereign.
Role and Functions of the Sovereign
As Head of State and embodiment of national unity, Prince Maximilian exercises wide-ranging constitutional and ceremonial responsibilities. Kaharagian governance is defined by a model of enlightened monarchy, wherein the Sovereign reigns with a deep and ongoing commitment to the well-being of his people. In the execution of his duties, His Royal Highness is advised by the Council of State, a consultative assembly composed of distinguished citizens who contribute to legislative affairs and offer counsel upon request.
The Prince also serves as the premier representative of Kaharagia in all diplomatic, ceremonial, and national contexts, symbolising the sovereignty and identity of the Principality.
Titles, Styles, and Honours
His Royal Highness The Most Noble and Most August Sovereign Prince MAXIMILIAN, By the Grace of God, Prince of Kaharagia, Lord and Protector of the Káhareži, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera
While this style reflects Kaharagia’s monarchical tradition, it is reserved for the most formal occasions. The customary use of “et cetera, et cetera, et cetera” serves as a conventional reference to the Prince’s other titles and dignities, including his roles within Kaharagian chivalric orders. His Royal Highness does not accept or employ foreign noble titles as a matter of principle.
National Orders and Decorations
The Prince serves as Sovereign Lord and Master of the Most Illustrious Order of Saint Michael the Archangel and as Sovereign of the Royal Order of the Kaharagian Eagle. He is vested with and wears the insignia of both orders. As Sovereign, he presides over the entire system of Kaharagian honours, including orders, decorations, and medals. However, in accordance with custom, His Royal Highness does not wear his own decorations (such as the Valour Cross or the Royal Decoration Pro Deo et Patria) nor any medals issued under his authority.
Foreign Honours
The Prince rarely accepts foreign honours and generally restricts his acceptance to individuals and organizations with whom His Royal Highness has a close friendship. This is the case with his acceptance of the dignity of Knight of the Exalted and August Byzantine Order of the Silver Cross, a house order established by the late Duke of Marykatos (1942-2021), a noble of the Byzantine Empire, specifically the Lascaris-Comnenus claimants.
It should be understood that the Sovereign’s acceptance of any honour should not be considered an endorsement of an organization, individual, or any claim they make.
